Behind the Ear (BTE) Hearing Aids

Behind the ear hearing aids are fitted before the ear and can be hidden by hair. These are usually shaped to fit the shape of your ear to make it more comfortable.

In the Canal (IC) Hearing Aids

In the canal hearing aids are placed in the ear. Unlike older hearing aids, modern day IC hearing aids are nearly invisible and won’t stand out.

In the Ear (ITE) Hearing Aids

In the ear hearing aids are designed to help those who have disabilities or challenges, and they are made to fit the shape and color of your ear.

Extended Wear Hearing Aids

If you need to wear your hearing aid 24/7 but don’t want to worry about changing batteries or becoming uncomfortable, extended wear hearing aids are perfect for you.

Receiver in the Ear (RIC) Hearing Aids

Receiver in the ear hearing aids are ideal for active adults in a professional environment who want to hear in meetings, parties, and other groups of people. The plastic can be hidden under your hair and the wire that fits in the ear is nearly invisible. These can also be compatible with Bluetooth to connect to your phone, iPad, or car.

Digital or Analog Hearing Aids

Analog hearing aids are ideal for quieter sounds and do allow manual tuning. However, they are not as flexible or advanced as digital hearing aids. Digital ones have the ability to identify specific outside noise and amplify the sounds you want to hear in a noisy situation. They also offer feedback cancellation, hands-free features, wireless technology, and the ability to program them.
The Advantages of Wireless Hearing Aids

If you would like the ability to pair your hearing aids directly with your smartphone or TV, wireless hearing aids may be the solution you want. Audiology Associates of Westchester can help you find wireless hearing aids and program them to suit you.
Assistive Listening Devices

Available assistive listening devices include:

  • Assistive Listening Devices - (ALDs) If you’re in an area with a lot of noise, ALDs can strengthen the sounds you actually wish to hear. They can also be used in conjunction with hearing aids or cochlear implants.
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication Devices - (AAC) These enable you to express yourself if you have a communication disorder.
  • Alerting Devices – These can send an alert from your doorbell, phone, or alarm directly to your hearing device.
  • Infrared Systems: These use a signal that can’t penetrate walls, which means they are ideal in classrooms, movie theaters, and rooms where private information is being discussed.
  • Personal Amplifiers: These can be used when watching TV or outside. They are usually used when any of the aforementioned systems aren’t available.
