Common Misconceptions About Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is a common, often misunderstood condition.

Hearing loss is extremely common; more than 10% of people in the United States have some level of hearing loss. Yet hearing loss can be hard to identify, and those with trouble hearing may be hesitant to seek help. If you are experiencing hearing loss, you are not alone.

Misconception: It would be easy to tell if I had any hearing issues.

Truth: Losing your hearing can happen over time, so you might not know that you’re having a problem. That’s why hearing tests are so important; a hearing test can help us identify hearing loss, no matter how subtle it is. 
Misconception: Hearing solutions are so complicated, I might as well deal with the problem by myself.
Truth: Hearing loss affects not just you, but the people are you. The process of getting your hearing tested and gaining the necessary solutions is easier than you think. And the results are worth it!  
Misconception: I can wait to get hearing solutions. 
Truth: Hearing loss can actually get progressively worse, so the sooner you can get a hearing aid or other hearing solution, the better. 
Misconception: A hearing aid won’t work for me.
Truth: Hearing aids are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Cheap hearing aids probably won’t work, but a customized one will serve you well. We offer hearing testing and customized adjustments to make sure your hearing aid is fitted just for you.  
Misconception: Everyone will notice my hearing aid.
Truth: Hearing aids have come a long way. Modern hearing aids are barely noticeable! 
Misconception: A hearing aid will make me appear old. 
Truth: Think about how young you’ll look and feel when you can participate in all the conversations happening around you! Plus, hearing loss doesn’t just happen to older people. 
Misconception: Hearing aids cost a lot, and I can save money with a single one.
Truth: Although the initial cost of hearing aids may seem high, this investment is worthwhile and will pay off! Effective hearing aids will enable you to live a happy and healthy life. Also, we recommend getting two hearing aids to hear in a balanced way.
